Antimony

Eyebrow and brows where darkened with mixes of coal and/or antimony. In general greek women liked to make their brows dark in order to highlight their eyes and antimony was a easy to find and useful mineral with this purpose.

Saffron

Saffron was mainly used to produce cosmetics for the eyes, eyelid, and hair dye. It was really sophisticated for his color and perfume.

Ash

Women used to put fuligo on their eyelashes in order to make them darker and thick.

Charcoal

Coal was used by women in order to paint the typical line on eyes.

White lead

Women used to put on their face, after the bath cremes based on biacca (ceruse, in that period called psimithion) of Rhodes. It is extremely toxic, in fact it has been removed by all the markets nowadays.

Bronze mirror with a

The ancient Greeks used mirrors that were held in the hand or stood independently. This free-standing example of a well established type consists of a base, a supporting figure, and the mirror disk embellished with additional figures around its periphery.
